How to configure your workstation for Maxon Cinema 4D 2023

The CAD program Cinema 4D is a 3D graphics software and was specially developed for complex visualizations and professional animations. The software impresses with reliability and an easy-to-use user interface. Cinema 4D is the perfect program for 3D artists, graphic designers and professionals from film and television. You want to work on larger and very complex projects with appealing geometry easier and faster? We configure the optimal business workstation for your individual Cinema 4D applications and offer you the possibility to put the system to the test with a test license for Cinema 4D via remote access. Contact us and arrange a free remote test. Following our hardware recommendation for Cinema 4D. The current version is 2023. Below is our hardware recommendation for Cinema 4D. At the end of this page you will find our video about the calculation of Cinema DNG in Adobe Premiere.

The right Processor for Cinema 4D 2023

Cinema 4D uses a maximum of 1-2 processor cores for most tasks (such as creating, modifying and animating 3D models). 3D modeling and animation are single-threaded applications and unleash their potential at high MHZ frequencies. Business Cinema 4D workstations with higher CPU speeds offer significantly more performance. A CPU with a high Intel Turbo Boost clock speed and a moderate number of cores is optimal for these tasks. We can recommend the following processors for a start: Intel Xeon W-2155 with 10 cores and a maximum of up to 4.50GHz, Intel i7-7800X with eight cores and up to 4.00GHz in Turbo Boost. For higher performance tasks, an Intel i9-10900X with 10 cores and up to 4.50 GHz is suitable, alternatively an Intel Xeon W2155 with 10 cores, 20 threads and maximum 4.50Ghz in Turbo Boost and ECC support. Unlike 3D modeling and animation, rendering is a multi-threaded application. The more CPU cores your system has available for rendering the faster the rendering tasks will complete. In addition to traditional CPU rendering, GPU rendering is supported by Cinema 4D. The rendering functions with Cinema 4D or other CPU-based rendering engines such as Keyshot, Arnold or V-RAY are more powerful and efficient the more CPU cores are available. A CPU with twice the number of cores will be able to complete the rendering workflow in half the time at the same MHz clock speed. Business workstations with dual Intel processors may have an advantage in rendering projects, but generally have lower clock speeds than single-core CPUs. This leads to limitations in all workflows around their modeling. For rendering and modeling, we recommend a processor with many cores and high MHz performance. AMD Ryzen CPUs from the Threadripper series meet these criteria. We have a business workstation from Lenovo in our program that meets exactly these specifications.

How much memory for Cinema 4D 2023?

Your projects decide the amount of RAM you need. We recommend a minimum of 16 GB RAM. More complex scenes are more complex to edit and require 32 GB of RAM. You can view the RAM usage during a Cinema 4D project in the Task Manager under the *Performance* menu item. With the help of the performance monitoring you can display a log of the RAM utilization. Open the Run dialog with Windows key + R and enter perfmon. For more complex, high-resolution renderings, you will need 64 GB or more of RAM. We are fueling our business workstation in quad-channel mode. Make sure you have enough memory banks to easily upgrade the RAM if needed.

The right GPU for Cinema 4D 2023

To improve viewport performance in Cinema 4D, it is often obvious to use a faster and larger GPU. Cinema 4D primarily uses the CPU and memory for its modeling tools. If you are not using rendering software, the use of two or more GPUs is not necessary because Cinema 4D uses only a single GPU. The use of a graphics card with OpenGL support from 4.1 is quite sufficient. If you use Redshift as a plugin for Cinema 4D you need a strong performance of the graphics card. Redshift is a GPU render software that supports the use of multiple graphics cards. For the use of more than two graphics cards we recommend multi-GPU systems, which are specialized for the use of many graphics cards. We can recommend both NVIDIA Quadro cards and Geforce RTX cards for Cinema 4D. From a cost perspective, NVIDIA's RTX series is very appealing, but may not always be the better choice due to the lack of certification and occasional driver issues. For simple projects, we recommend an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A2000 with 12 GB or a Geforce RTX3060 with 12GB VRAM for Cinema 4D. If you use the Redshift plug-in, significantly more graphics card memory is required. We recommend one or more NVIDIA Geforce RTX3070Ti or one or more in SLI network Geforce RTX3080Ti. Alternatively, you can use an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A4000 with 16 GB VRAM or a Quadro RTX A5000 with 24 GB VRAM. Since the integration of a rendering engine (Radeon Pro Renderer) in 2017, AMD graphics cards, for example a Radeon Pro W6600 with 8 GB for simple projects or a W6800 with 32 GB VRAM graphics card memory for more complex tasks are a real alternative for Cinema 4D. Update the graphics card driver at regular intervals.

Optimized SSD Configuration for cinema 4D 2023

The use of an SSD is highly recommended. Accelerated data access significantly improves performance. For Cinema 4D we recommend to install the operating system and the programs on a M.2 SSD and to save your projects on a second powerful M.2 NVMe SSD if this data is not secured by a server.
